Three different ways of positioning with Bluetooth have been developed. With a registered positioning service a Bluetooth device has an active role in the positioning task as it sends a position on request. A Bluetooth device can also take a more passive role in a positioning task, where the unique address of the device is used by a connected device to look up respective position in a database. It is also possible to forward a position gained from the positioning platform using the peer to peer characteristics in Bluetooth.
Reliabilty
November 10th, 2009Reliability of Bluetooth

Bluetooth is a rapidly developing technology
Instant wireless connection
Highly adaptable, integration, low power
Can be Master of one Piconet, slave in other.
Bit error rate (BER) - 10^-3
(estimate in advance, at design stage)?
High BER due to low transmission power.
unlike IrDA, RS & WLAN technologies, Bluetooth has more sophisticated functionality, and a priori estimated chip's reliability comparable to WLAN's hardware set or even a little better. No competitors to Bluetooth's low energy consumption. Strong coding could help improve reliability.
Second Project Meeting
November 6th, 2009Had meeting yesterday 05/11/09 with Svetlana,
Happy with Proposal and need to submit to Pat Browne.
Decided to look more into background, read up on some papers.
Need to do up a Plan of tasks/stages, for project management.
Need to explain better what the project will be doing.
Next meeting 12/11/09

Status So Far
November 5th, 2009Had first meeting with Svetlana on 29/10/08, emailed brief outline of project.
Discussed this and recommended some background research and to produce proposal.
